week 10

We had too get more stone as we were running out of biggest stone , plus the diamond blade got blunt

we had too get another one, lesson we learnt was too always check the gear before hiring cause we had a loose blade

that we had too take back too hire equipment , once the stone was in place we then finger pointed making sure

the mortar was firmly in the joint smoothed over.

week9

we put a string line down the middle steve and i chipped away sum old concrete mortar from front edge from the front of the porch path is on slight angle we split into groups did a section each we used big stones cutting them making sure there was a gap between each stone place to allow finger pointing we had to make sure the stones were measured rite before cutting each stone placed had to be even to the string line we put timber edging for each section.

week 8

second project crazy schist paving first we checked the site edging was already there so we used it as our guide the path is curved one we had to mark our depth for path then we leved the exsisting gravel once it was removed we ap40 grit and compacted it to the depth reguired.

my first practical stone mason project we first had maesure out the site which was tricky at first there was a concrete wall along the classroom floor we decided too use it as a measurement to go by we had too measure out the path too the Bothy corner we had a problem with the garden edge it was too high we use the laser level too get the base of the path we decided 105 approx oposite concete wall we had to go 15mm down in height get the angle of the path and the depth for the paving stone and cruster dust and base ap/20 aggregate once we finish that we use treated timber for the edging next we had to get the hollows out of the base by screening it then we lay the coarse down checking for level our pattern is the herring bone theme before laying had too compact and spray water we ordered 370 pavers from placemakers we used diomond blade cutter and a guilitine cutter for straight cuts we had too lay line at a time using 45 mm off cuts for right depth of the cruster dust only trouble doing this was paving stone cuold sink slightly had to keep the stones even on top with lines straight when loking down the path after this we filled the rest of the paving stones anle cuts were difficult then we compact the pavers using a carpet rug on the bottom of the compacter we had too check the pavers if sunk pull the out re screen next was pavlock and sweept into gaps sweep it clean overall a good job by all.

Arrived on course stonemasonry meet steve and the 2009 stonemasonry students  my first week was drawing for stonemasonry with megan the tutor we learnt how to plan out sonework from plans and we used concepts cross sections from plans, drawing stone steps using 2 point perspective rule, we learnt how 2  draw over photos and using view point lines for features we add to photo we also had a project too do we had too pick a photo and landscape the section with stonemason work had too have stone feature with cross section drawing stone paving , stone planters ,stone walls ,stone seater project had too have site plan, cross section  water feature ,changed the angle view point of the site using 2 point perspective i looked out from deck to the street. megan got us too learn how to use pencil measurement drawing the Bothy and church plus drawing old cromwell stone schist
